Choose the right kind of prevention

Start with the loss paths.
The plan begins with where water can escape, where it can travel, and what would be affected before anyone notices. Mechanical rooms, risers, common equipment, suites, vacant areas, and sensitive rooms do not all need the same device or response rule.
A walkthrough can identify priority zones, available shutoff points, connectivity constraints, and who is responsible when an alert arrives.
Detection and control are different decisions.
Some locations need an alert only. Others may justify an automatic or remotely initiated shutoff. The right choice depends on the water system, the consequence of interruption, access, maintenance, and the risk of false or missed actions.

Will an automatic shutoff work for every building?
No. Shutoff suitability depends on the water system, valve arrangement, consequences of interruption, access, and operating responsibility. A site-specific review comes first.
Where should leak sensors go?
Placement follows likely leak sources and the path water could take. Priority may include mechanical equipment, risers, vulnerable fixtures, vacant areas, and rooms where a small leak would cause high damage.
Who receives leak alerts?
That is part of the plan. An alert should go to a monitored contact with authority and a documented next action, plus an escalation path when the first person does not respond.
