Top-floor water is not automatically a roofing file.
Boards often open a roofing claim because the suite is on the top floor. Plumbing in the ceiling space can stain the same drywall. The weather log and the fixture log should both be on the table.
Write the weather and the fixture use.
Did it start during rain or melt? During a shower two suites over? At 2 a.m. with no weather? Those are different files.
Look at the suite below a bathroom, not only the sky.
A wet top-floor ceiling under a mechanical penthouse or a corridor stack may have nothing to do with shingles.

Can a roof leak appear far from the hole?
Yes. Water can travel under membrane and along decking. That is why a roofing inspection and a plumbing look can both be needed.

Not if the ceiling is wet now. Active water is a call. A dry historical stain can wait for a planned visit.
