Hose bib

A hose bib that drips in January is a freeze file until proven otherwise.

Exterior taps and their interior stops are a regular winter failure. Occupants who leave a hose attached give ice a place to form.

Disconnect hoses before deep cold.

A hose left on the tap can trap water and split the bib or the interior pipe.

Use the interior stop, not the handle in the ice.

Forcing a frozen exterior handle can break it open. The interior valve is the isolation.

Water in the parkade under a bib is a clue.

Follow the frost. Do not assume the only damage is at the chrome handle.

Questions people ask

Can I pour hot water on the tap?

Do not. You can crack the fitting and scald yourself. Isolate inside and call.

Is this a suite problem or a building problem?

Some bibs are unit; some are common. The manager should say which, after the water is stopped.

Need a clear next step?

If water is actively causing damage, call. If the condition is stable, send a callback request.
