Building valve

The building main is not a resident handle.

A main valve takes water away from every suite, every hose bib, and often the heating plant’s make-up. Turning it without authority can create a second emergency.

Know who is allowed to touch it.

Usually a manager, a building operator, or an authorized contractor. Occupants should call that person rather than enter a mechanical room.

A main shutoff has consequences.

Boilers, domestic heaters, and fire systems may be affected depending on the building. That is why it is not a first reflex for a single-suite leak.

Ask where isolation actually lives.

Many leaks only need a suite or riser isolation. Finding that smaller valve is better than darkening the whole stack.

Questions people ask

Where is our main valve?

Ask the property manager before you need it. Do not learn during a flood by wandering the parkade.

Will ProShield operate the main?

Only with building authority and a reason that isolation at a smaller valve cannot cover. The default is the smallest safe isolation.

Need a clear next step?

If water is actively causing damage, call. If the condition is stable, send a callback request.
